auf ulrich schnauss 5tem studio-album “no further ahead than today” regieren einmal mehr die elektronisch eingespielten ambient-pop-hymnen, die längst zu seinem markenzeichen geworden sind. diese sollten fans von künstlern wie jon hopkins und brian eno interessieren. schnauss selbst ist umtriebig - seit 2014 ist er keyboarder bei tangerine dream, produziert unter eigenem namen remixes für pop-künstler wie depeche mode, pet shop boys, todd terje und bryan ferry und hat gerade für die decca-compilation “re:works” bachs “prelude in c” neu in szene gesetzt.
“no further ahead than today” ist klar mehr pop als ambient. starke melodien stehen im vordergrund, die stücke sind mit rhythmen unterlegt, zuweilen gar mit gesang begleitet, eine hymnische note ist immer präsent. spätestens seit seinen beiden solo-alben, die bei dem deutschen label city center offices erschienen, gilt schnauss als ein elektroniker, der manche tugenden des britischen indie-shoegaze-sounds auf seine klangvorstellungen überträgt.

the two french friends, siler & dima , have collaborated on phonogramme imprint to present you their 2nd release « friends chip » ep. a first release almost 2 years ago on their own label, popcorn records, siler & dima , took a little break from producing. when the two of them finally got back in the studio, they were unsure exactly what would result, but both wanted a return to their background and the music they like to work together. a music based on sampling, with a melting pot of jazzy & funk soul influences, from moodymann to gil scott heron or donny hataway. the result is here, with 3 groovy tunes, with a strong jazz touch, influenced downbeat of the 90’s. this friends chip release is also the fruit of several collaborations. in « the hunters » you can easily recognize the unique and sexy voice of chez damier, a key influence of the french duo. in “memoory” ,the young & talented paul cut brought his keyboard science , and le loup, one of the main highlight of the french scene, appears on the last track, « willie hutch”. to bring his music knowledge and groove to the original. the result is a beautiful ep truly “friendship”

rückblende. der krieg herrscht in kabul. nach einem bombenanschlag steht fuchy vor dem, was einmal sein zuhause war: alles ist schutt und asche und lähmender schmerz. er sieht sich um. nichts ist ihm geblieben, außer seinem querkopf und seiner superkraft, die musik. damit bewaffnet, bricht er auf in die ferne, fremde, ungewisse welt des westens. dies ist der narrative rahmen für die abenteuer des kleinen, kauzigen kämpfers fuchy. die geschichte eines geflüchteten aus afghanistan, der versucht, sich seine neue umgebung nach seinen eigenen regeln zu erschließen - und dabei instinktiv beats von genuiner schönheit rausballert. fuchy ist gezeichnet, animiert, erfunden, eine art orientalische hip hop-variante von bart simpson. aber gleichzeitig könnte er realer nicht sein. weil er voller widersprüche ist. fuchy, das ist der protagonist von -420- und zugleich das alter ego des in hamburg lebenden musikproduzenten farhad -farhot- samadzada. farhot, vor 34 jahren im afghanischen kabul geboren, hat nicht nur mit deutschen top-künstlern wie max herre, haftbefehl, samy deluxe, chefket, karate andi und xatar gearbeitet. er hat ebenso erfolgreich mit internationalen künstlern wie der soul-sängerin nneka aus nigeria, selah sue, der grime-königin ms dynamite oder den us-amerikanischen hip hop-stars talib kweli und isaiah rashad zusammengearbeitet. seit einiger zeit betreibt farhot zudem sein eigenes label kabul fire.

makam returns to dekmantel records with his first full-length album for the amsterdam based label. blankens ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to than sadet, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. that sadet displays a refinement of makams sound. the music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. blanken: than sadet is a secluded beach on an island in thailand. a mysterious atmosphere haunts it. its windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. there are many cliffs and you cant swim because the waves are too high. four years ago i visited than sadet for the first time and ive been coming back ever since. at one point i decided to bring my studio equipment. for a week, i dedicated my days to making music. those sketches formed the basis of the album.

“here come the horns” is the second studio album by the hip hop group delinquent habits. formed in east los angeles in 1991, the group are known for their latin-tinged rap, which is both melodic and hardcore. their first self-titled album movlp1338 was executive produced by cypress hill member sen dog and featured guest appearances by sen himself as well as puerto rican new york city rapper hurricane g.
their second album, “here come the horns”, again featured sen dog as well as sen’s brother, pioneering latin rapper mellow man ace. the album was also produced by sen dog and paul stewart. music videos were made for “this is la” and “here come the horns”.

as we welcome another talented artist to our family we asked viken about the first part of a two part release and he told us it s really important to understand that this ep is a series of pictures telling a story. combining the names of all the tracks one gets this interesting and dreamy sentence, on a blue road a white shadow feels the winter. to translate these pictures into music, i needed a very particular sound. since i am a huge fan of jazz music i took one of my favorite records, used a lot of samples and reworked them in my own way. from the technical aspect, i decided to reconnect with my first love: analog machines. i love working with sound textures. i stayed away from my laptop and all my vst/plugins as i felt the need to compose these tracks in an unusual way: i wanted the sound to be really pure. that s the reason why this process was so essential for me. for me, this ep is the first one to sound like this. this is the first of two releases from a deeply talented soul. a patient collage of house, jazz, acid squiggles and deep emotion. played and loved all summer long by lee burridge at all day i dream, these tracks will stay with you through winter and into next summer.
